This happened to me only yesterday!! I’ve been reconsidering doing my Christmas shopping on-line because of the amount of time I’ll have to take from work, and sheer inconvenience of having to go to the post office.

Thought you might like to know that we’ve launched an all new version of AllTheDeals, much more in line with Google’s offering.

We’ve gone back to splitting out local, national and travel deals on separate pages and also added new features like deleting “junk” deals you’re not interested in.

We’ve also completely overhauled the daily email and rss feeds which now allow customisation of location and categories.
We’re pretty sure that is will help you sort the good deals from the junk, but would love any feedback you have.

I’ll definitely be doing my Christmas shopping online this year, I’ve learnt my lesson from last year! I’ve already bought my mum, dad and boyfriend’s presents from Fresh Fragrances and Cosmetics; they had really great gift guides this year.

A great way I save money is by subscribing to email newsletters on brand websites.

I get emails at least once a month with promotions, special offers and discounts!

Today I received an SMS from Oxford – 60% off everything in store for the next 3 days! Great!

Tip: JB Hifi uses pricing codes on most products – Yellow Price tag = the price is hi… negotiate! A white price tag = price is close to cost. (Or is it the other way around..hmmmm?)

Another great way to bargain is through bonus items and add-ons. i.e. when buying a digital camera – ask for a free case, extra battery or memory card. Often it’s not the camera which has the high mark up, but the accessories. This becomes a great bargaining tool and way to get an overall discount.

I got an email the other day from a poor man in Africa who found lots of money but the corrupt government is going to steal it all if I don’t help him use my bank account. I’m torn because he promised me a slice of the pie but it seems a little suspicious.

This is ridiculous…

Retail outlets which encourage this practice obviously do not understand consumers at all. In contrast, many companies are offering free samples, or testers to encourage purchases. i.e. Nespresso – which offers free coffee in their retail stores, cosmetics and perfumes labels which offer free samples or testers, Vineyards/Bottle Stores which have free wine tastings etc.

Clothes brands and stores which charge a fee are missing the entire point of the industry – the clothes, the fashion and the consumer. They are essentially saying to the customer ‘all we care about is money.. we are not interested in your interest in our label.’

Retailers need to understand that for many people, clothes are their identity and represent an aspirational lifestyle.. charging admissions to try clothes will result in consumer backlash. It is an abuse an insult to customer.

Retailers should in fact think about bonuses and in store discounts for customers who try more clothes on – without doubt I believe this would actually increase compulsive consumer purchases and shopper interest.

Think: you try on a dress or shirt – and the store then offers 15% off total purchase price or a bonus gift if you try or buy a tie or belt to match. There is infinite potential for bonus sales!!

Retail stores are already losing against the online world – they need to further encouraging consumer browsing and spending – not scare potential customers away!

Considering an Australian population of 22 million people.. with nearly 1 million parcels of unclaimed money and a total prize pool of $636 million – That’s a 1 in 22 chance of winning!! The odds are so much better then the lottery!!

But damn, I just checked… no deceased estates, or life insurance payouts waiting for me!
